I have a friend who is 18. She really wants to die. She's tried overdosing on nyquil before. She told me it did not succeed. Yesterday we were studying together for our final and she said if she does not do well than it is over. She does not seem like she's joking either. Her family will be ashamed of her she does not get a good grade in his class. Her father may disown her.
Update:I tell her about her parents and family missing her. She honestly does not believe they will. At first I thought it was a cry for attention. There is no self-pity in her voice.

Her family would be the best people to help her out. I've tried resorting to suicide a few times myself (slitting my rest, overdose etc) but my family and the love of my life kept bringing me back to a state of mind which was beyond just beautiful. I want to live and i love my life. Dont let your friend be upset about anything. Make her feel special and make her realize that people care about her. Her death would affect a lot of people and whether she really wants to hurt all these people. Parents are almost always judgemental about everything. They only bark, rarely bite. In the worst circumstances, if they do disown her, she'll still be alive. If she cries to her parents and goes on about how much she loves them and how she can't live without them, they'd probably shed a few tears and call her back.
[im sorry for the long answer, its just something i can relate to and couldn't help putting in my suggestions :)]
If she is suffering from clinical depression she should see her GP. Often it's not the things in life that cause depression, it's the person's mental state and feelings towards them. This can rectified medically. I know. I've been there. And I'm now as happy as I want to be.
your friend is the most pessimistic person in the world ,she is really mad. Does she always think of committing suicide or is she scared about her results. Tell her to stop wasting her time worrying and tell her to study first. And to top it all "father disowning his own daughter" OH! come on be serious!!!!! that to for not getting good grades!! that's just ridiculous! She might feel much better if she talks with her parents openly about her fears.
She's not serious. For god's sake, Nyquil????
Whatever. Tell her to get therapy. Even better, tell her parents what she's done.
You need to tell her family members.
This is too big and too important to keep to yourself. She might hate you for it, but you can only hope that one day she will understand.
tell the teachers.
this is a cry for attention - so give it to her.
about the only thing i know is make sure someone is with her at all times.
