my daughter would projectile vomit. It would come out with such force, it would usual hit me in the chest and run down inside and outside of my blouse.
Okay. Lactose Intollerance does not cause a rash nor face swelling. That would be an allergy to a by-product of the milk, most likely the milk protein. I have one daughter who had lactose intollerance and another with a severe milk allergy. With my 1st daughter she was on regular milk based formula to begin with. She had excessive spit up, diarrhea, frequent belly aches and really nasty farts. Those are the signs of lactose intollerance. She outgrew it by the time she was three, but sometimes if she eats say milk and pizza she'll get a belly ache. Anything more than that is likely an allergy, as my 2nd daughter had. She projectile vomited her 1st milk based bottle and then had blood plus mucous in her stools. As she got older and began experimenting with foods she was not supposed to eat we ended up in the ER as she would get a rash, huge hives that looked like masquito bites but were the size of half dollar coins, trouble breathing, cold-like symptoms, wheezing, coughing, watery eyes, along with diarrhea and vomitting. We had to carry an epipen with us because she almost went into anaphylactic shock a few times. She finally outgrew her allergy by age nine. She went for testing at that time that said she no longer had it. Lactose intollerance is possible with babies and more common in nonwhite cultures such as Hispanics, African-Americans and Asian nationalities.
Lactose intolerance is actually very rare in infancy. (Both parents would have to pass the gene for this type of lactose intolerance to the baby.) From birth, the baby would have severe diarrhea and be unable to tolerate the lactose in his mother's breast milk or in formula made from cow's milk. He'd need a special, lactose-free infant formula.
Most lactose intolerance shows up in late childhood or teen years.
. It is more common for children to have a sensitivty to cow's milk protein. Children who have a senstivity to cows milk protein usually show signs such as diarrhea, abdominal cramping, bloating, or gas about 30 minutes to two hours after drinking breast milk or eating dairy products, like cheese or yogurt, once he starts eating solids. These are also the same signs a child would show if he became lactose intolerant.
My 3 week old son is on prescribed soy formula. In the hospital he went 10+ hours not eating because he would projectile throw up or push his bottles away. I mean how many of us could go with out eating for 10 hours awake let alone a newborn? He is still very gassy but has no spit up or projectile throw ups anymore. You know what your baby needs best. I had to fight with the hospital to switch his formula. I knew what was best. I made them do it and now my son is the happiest baby alive. Barely even cry.
My son is lactose intolerant and he is 6 months old. When he drank any type of formula or milk his eyes would swell up and his face would come up in a rash. The doctors told me to put e45 cream on it but he screamed when i did as it stang him when i put it on. I went to another doctor who said he was lactose intolerant and prescribed soya milk formula and he has been so much better now.
