We have a Kenmore/MD Electric portable dishwasher - white, that recently it hasn't been draining. At the most it's been a trickle and we had to use a turkey baster to remove the water from the bottom. We checked the drain hose and so forth, and they are clear, so the clog is in the dishwasher itself. We were able to pull some food out of it and that helped a little, but what is the best way to finish unclogging it?
Do we run it through a cycle empty with Drano in the soap dispenser, do we need to virtually dismantle the machine, or what?

A dishwasher is made up of a lot of different, delicate little parts and an amateur attempting to repair something they know very little about can easily end up causing more trouble than they solve. A dishwasher not draining can be caused by something as small as an internal timer not functioning properly, but little problems like that are almost impossible for the DIY dishwasher repairperson to spot . They may end up destroying a perfectly good dishwasher that was just experiencing a minor glitch because they were too proud (or too cheap) to admit defeat and call in the pros to figure out their dishwasher drainage problems.
Stick a long metal wire or a thin metal tape from the dishwasher discharge drain down the discharge hose moving it in and out to loosen the waste built up. Good luck...!
