Like a lot of things, political correctness came out of good intentions--the desire to not offend people--but has been used to stifle debate. It's hard to find positive things to say about it, as people on both the left and the right have used it to reduce dissent. I suspect that right-wingers use the term a bit more often than left-wingers, usually to describe restrictions on their speech that they don't like.
It has led us away from the acceptance of rude, ignorant comments that were commonplace beforehand. Without it, we would still hear ignorant comments about peoples race, about females in the workplace, about homosexuals etc. The opposite of tolerance is hatred, so I will choose the tolerance of PC anyday to its alternative.
People who hate PC, don't stop to think how it would be without it. One man - one vote is irksome to us now as we have corrected it to one person - one vote.

It isn't. Political correctness is a polite word for the justification of mediocrity.
You get to hear what you want to hear...period. You don't get to hear what you need to hear to get your drums rolling.
