I'm a stylist who specializes in long hair. People like me generally consider long hair anything past the mid-back level. There are many long hair styles that we administer that could not be done on hair much shorter than that and shoulder length hair would absolutely not work. Hope that helps.

O.K. now that the standard has been set for what long hair is. Why can't a guy have long hair down around his chin or mid-neck? This is considered short hair by the standard set here.

to me long hair is when you hair is at lest 4 inches or more past your shoulders... hair down to your butt is way 2 long...hair to your mid back is long

I consider long hair to hit half way down your torso (when placed in front of you).

When I can pull it back into a pony tail, even a short one. Then my hair is "long".
