She might be a bit younger, she still has no full control of her legs, I am feeding her pup's milk at the moment. so far she has eaten at least 3 times a day... about 1/2 to 3/4 of a can. can is 12.5 ounces. Is she on the right track?
~Given my knowledge of your dog, my training as a vet and my experience in raising new born pups generally, I'd have to say no. By this age, a pitbull should be eating at least the leg of a small child twice daily.
It clearly states that puppies should be wormed at 2,3,4,6,8,and 10 weeks. That is every one or two weeks. So you can repeat the dosage in a week and then again in two weeks, but the puppy should see a vet by then to be vaccinated and have a well-puppy check. Edit: The ingredients are safe.Pyrantel is the same thing as Nemex or Strongid. Pyrantel is pyrantel,no matter if it is purchased from a vet or at a pet or farm store. Edit: Pyrantel kills both roundworms and hookworms, and I did mention that she needs to get the puppy to a vet.Yes,if it has fleas,it may have tapeworms, which pyrantel will not help, but she is just asking how to give this particular wormer. I have used OTC general wormers and they work fine.My vet uses Equiphar, which is for livestock, instead of Nemex, because it is way cheaper and goes a very long way as it is so concentrated,so dogs and cats need a very small amount. Because of this, she does not charge anything to worm an animal with it,it is always free. Jessy - You can buy Pyrantel in any pet or farm store and even at the grocery store. It IS OTC. No prescription is needed.
When my pitbull had a litter she had more puppies than she had nipples so we had to alternate the puppies and we also had to bottle feed a few. Where is the mother? (just curious) We would alternate the dogs every 2-3 hours. When we had to bottle feed we would feed them as much as they would eat about 4-5 times a day. As long as the puppy is taking the bottle you really don't have much to worry about. We had a few that refused the bottle and then refused to eat. If the puppy goes too long without eating they get weak and then don't have the strength to suck the bottle to get the milk. If this happens stimulate their appetite with a little bit of sugar water on a teaspoon. If the puppy doesn't want to eat and it persists contact the vet and they will teach you how to tube feed the puppy. Good Luck
at 5 weeks is usualy when most people whean pups, usualy 3 or 4 meals a day (solids) and top up of milk between when hungery (if there not fully on solids.)
about a full can a day should be ok.
it sounds like your doing ok but check with a vet or breeder for the ideal weight at that age.
She needs to be fed every 4-5 hours, if she is still on milk. I would suggest that you do some serious research regarding bottle-feeding puppies, when to wean them, and how to start them on solid food.
