can i just put newspapers and change them daily and as for the food and water plates specially thee where i'll put the eggs and stuff how do i clean them and how long do i leave a serving of greens or eggs inside a birds cage ?
Don't leave eggs inside the cage because they're vegetarians just like budgies or parakeets.
You know that little grate in the cage at the bottom? Lift it up and take a wet towel and wipe the grate and remove all the debris at the bottom of the grate and clean up any poop, etc. Then put the grate back down. Wash the food and water container with dish soap, too! Don't mistaken seed husks with seeds because if they already ate and you see seed husks inside the food bowl, take it out and wash the bowl and DRY it..if water comes in contact with the seeds, it'll grow bacteria. Also, you should change the water 2 times a day. Make it clean and cold/warm. Make sure there are no seeds or garbage inside the water. ( I almost forgot!! You can leave newspapers on the tray at the bottom of the grate, but I think you should put in paper towels or paper instead because it's white and it might be scared of it.) You should clean the cage everyday or every 2 days. The cleaner it is, the happier it will be. Also, you should get seeds with veggies and fruits. Feed him veggies like lettuce ( NO CABBAGE..that's poison and can ruin their stomach. ) and broccoli. Feed him apples, but not the seeds, because it's deadly. You can occasionally feed it bread, but it's considered as junk food. Make sure its nails are trimmed and that it takes a bath.. WOW!! I'm sorry, that's a lot of information xDD
You will need to change the newspapers daily, or more often if the bird has been very messy with his food. Once a week you will need to give the cage a good scrubbing. Hot soapy water and a toothbrush works well to get into all the little nooks and crannies to get rid of any poop and food scraps left over.
You will need to wash food and water bowls daily with hot soapy water. Water may need to be refreshed more often again if the bird has pooped in it or dunked food in the water. Don't forget to wash his toys as well!
Rinse everything thoroughly after cleaning, to remove any trace of soap.
Contrary to what another poster said, giving birds egg is a good thing. Egg has lots of protein in it, and is full of important vitamins and minerals. Remove any fruit, vegetables and the egg at the end of the day, to prevent bacterial growth and to stop vermin such as fruit flies.
EDIT: Lettuce is not such a good thing to feed birds. It has a high water content, but very little other nutrients. If you are stuck for ideas what to give your bird, check lower down on this following page. It has a huge selection of what to give and what not to give your bird.
