So I moved into a small apartment a few months ago and the building is really old, which I feel gives me less of a "canvas" to start with anyway - but does anybody have decor tips for this decorating? I attached a photo of the living room and bedroom below. Please be specific if possible! Also, I know it's currently rough looking.

In a small space you need not be trendy and worry about decor
I think an older building can have charm and character
But you don't have to worry about the outside
Maybe an old plant urn by your door with plants and a welcome steak in the urn
I think you need a few comfortable areas like a sitting area, chair ottoman table lamp
Less furniture is a better choice don't worry about haven seat for every friend it will rarely happen
Make a choice on a smaller couch or 2 chairs with ottomans simple pieces are timeless and go the distance accent pillows and the throw carpet pull the room together
Have fun

An area rug defines spaces
No dressers they take up too much space use your closet
firstly, try smaller furniture. it looks too crowded. the bedroom looks like a good size though.
you need to find smaller couches. adding decor with those will just look like too much. stick to wall shelves and add some decor on there like vases and random things. dont add decor to your tables or other furniture, keep most of it off the floor. don't decorate too much. itll look crowded. also... try mirrors. they make the room seem bigger!
I think youtube would be the best place to go for something like that, theres many people that show you cool DIY ways to decorate your apartment/house/room, check out this video of Andreas Choice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS6TW8_aZB4
basically if you're too lazy to watch it, she makes a black board out of a picture frame, a DIY room divider
