There are 16 tablespoons in one cup, 12 in 3/4 cup, 8 in 1/2 cup and 4 in 1/4 cup
So, for 3/4 cup, you can either use 12 tablespoons if you don't mind spooning that many times OR do 1/2 cup and 4 tablespoons - which is a little easier to do but either way is the exact same amount.
For your 1 1/2 cups, 3/4 cup + 3/4 cup (if you do your fractions) equals 6/4 cups or 1 1/2 cups so, to cut 1 1/2 cups in half - that's 3/4 cups. The easiest way to look at it is separately - for instance - half of 1 cup is 1/2 cup. Half of 1/2 cup is 1/4 cup. So, what you would have would be 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup which is 3/4 cups since there are two 1/4 cups in 1/2 cup.
