The idea is the human body is not designed to lose weight quickly or efficiently. We're still wired like we were 20,000 years ago when there weren't 24 hour markets around and fast food on every corner.
Our bodies like to gain weight because this is our insurance policy for when times are lean and our bodies don't want to lose that weight so you essentially have to trick yourself into losing weight.
1-2 pounds a week is what a normal person should lose when trying to lose weight. Try to lose more than 2 pounds a week and you'll wind up hurting yourself.
Go on a diet, and to help you stick with your diet, everytime you are deciding what you are going to eat imagine yourself the way you are now and imagine yourself a little bit more skinny, and go for walks AT LEAST once a day, and before you think, ''I'm too tired to walk today, i'll just do a little bit more walking tomorrow'', again imagine youself the way you are now and compare it to yourself in the future, when your skinnier.

eat approx 1200-1500 calories a day and do 20-30 min of cardio a day - i lost 45 lbs in a summer doing this.
Burn more calories than you take in, just no starving yourself.
