I am wanting to record YouTube videos and mp3s of me playing along to songs and backing tracks and am looking for simple to use, FREE software (if any is good enough). If not I can pay up to $100.
Once I have the software, how do I go about synching the tracks? With mp3s I guess I just import the track into the software and record my guitar over the top of it, right?
With YouTube videos I understand you record the video and then synch it to the audio you recorded direct onto your computer (seems easy enough) but what about the backing track? Do you have to import that and synch all three or will the multitrack software record that alongside your own audio signal?
If you have to synch all three how do you do this? Whether or not the backing track has a click intro you're left to slide the video & audio tracks left or right and may not be able to synch perfectly. (It also sounds a tedious task of hit-and-miss).
Thanks in advance.

You will want to use Audacity for all your audio, it is a multi track capable audio software with a range of powerful tools and is free.
The hard part is video + audio editing and sequencing because the popular options are often premiere pro or sony vegas and these are expensive. They allow muli audio and video track editing and will export a final video ready for youtube (or tv/dvd - they are quality). You need to work with multiple tracks and layer audio and video by importing all 3 tracks into the software and editing them in a 'timeline'. Some software allows you to do voice recording alongside your imported background track.
2 free alternatives include:
Avidemux (single track editor, popular and well designed)

T@b zs4 (multi track editor, not very well known - not well supported)

What you will need to record yourself playing guitar on video is a BR-80 digital recorder and a video camera Canon HF R400. Connect guitar on the BR-80 and the BR-80 to the Canon HF R400.Record your song and then you take the memory card from the Canon HF R400, upload to youtube and your done with no hustle. No software needed , no mixing needed no editing needed and you ll be done in no time and professionally.
