It seems like you're doing it right but it seems as if the recovery discs were not properly created or something went wrong during the process. I hate to say it but I used to have a Compaq Presario laptop and the recovery discs wouldn't even recover. It would show me a message, "these recovery discs are not supported".

Usually you would insert the discs and restart your computer then follow the on-screen prompts.

Or you can go to recovery manager and try it from there by doing a recovery to manufacturer's setting.

Or.. sometimes you have to press F11 or some F#. Varies.
