you will not hurt anything buy setting the low pass filter while the stereo is playing. start at around 80 hz and adjust it up and down til it sounds right to you.
Most common subs are 12's so id say if you have 12's try to play with the LPF and set it at 100, go down 20 see if you like the sound, go above to 120 see if you like the sound.
Play a song a 75% volume, turn your decks sets back to 0, Treb mids SWL ect....
Play on or two songs on repeat, play the type of music you listen to the most.
