I understand they're very different laptops but I need a little bit of help. I'll be using the laptop for college work (mainly Word), music and general internet use. I might end up getting pro tools as well. I get that the MBP is the obvious choice in a lot of ways but it's gonna cost me €1,300 compared to getting the Sleekbook which is €580.
The MBP(2.5GHz) has 8GB RAM and a 500 GB hard drive. 13'' screen
The Sleekbook has 4GB with 500 GB hard drive. 15.6'' screen
However my biggest question is Are Macs worth it?

It really depends on YOUR needs and Wants. First I am a Mac user from 1984. So a little partial, but the Macs of today and the top of the line Windows only machines are closer than they were back in the day. First they both are Intel based machines, fast processors, plus both run Windows natively. Bet you didn't see that coming. Only the Mac runs OS10 natively in addition to the Windows natively, if you want. So I see that as a plus. There may come a time when the only program to do what you need to do is either windows or OS10 run and always the one you don't have.
. The next is to pick out your Windows only machine, check the price for the same processor speed that the Mac has. Then check out the programs that are part of the package. Then compare what it would cost for the other machine to be upgraded for those programs, don't forget the price of a good virus protection program for the Windows based PC. In all the years I have run OS 4/5/7/8/9/10 versions I have never had to have protection. I also know how to repair my machine if I ever have any kind of a virus attack and it doesn't need a virus protection program that may or may not work. It is old school, but I am old school trained.
. Now compare the price of both machines. Next if you are using an iPhone or an iPad of any kind, it would be better to keep in the Apple family. They keep in contact with each other, you can use one to find the geographical location of any of the others, handy. Now if you are an android user, I would believe there are more items that will do the same thing on windows. So look for the Apps used on windows that will allow you and your phone or tablet to stay connected with the windows OS.
. Which computer comes closer to your price point? To my mind a well built windows only machine is a good buy as long as you take precautions to keep it safe. What ever you buy, if you are not an experienced user of that OS type, then find a computer club that offers help. They are everywhere, find a helper. Then learn how to use the OS and your favorite computer programs.
. Care and feeding, my computers last 7 to 10 years each. However I take care of them. I do not loan out of my sight. I keep the laptops as cool as I can. No tossing computers over to the bed, sure it is probably soft, but the fast stop is never good. Update your system and drivers and programs when it is available. Make it a priority to check or if you decide on the Mac, make sure you tell the computer to automatically check for all Apple things, and manually check on all programs (not apple) and drivers when you upgrade the OS version. Try and keep it dry, so keep the drinks away from liquids and drunks. That should see you through regardless of the computer you decide to buy.
. Good luck...
