I lost a gift card with about $200 on it. When I call the number to get it replaced, it says I need the card number. How would I have that if that card is lost? Is there a way I go about getting it replaced without the card number? Or have I just thrown $200 out the window?
Thanks

1. If your card is lost or stolen, most retailers are sympathetic -- but only if you can prove that you actually purchased the card.
2. The receipt is your first line of defense if you lose a card. If you lose the receipt and lose the card, you're pretty much out of luck.
3. The receipt can be with the person who gave you the gift card in the first place.
4. If you have made online purchases with your gift card, your number is protected.
5. American Express now offers to replace lost or stolen gift cards for free (if you have the original card number).

Since the gift cards have an American Express logo on them then you should be able to use it for a vacation...its just like having a credit card with a $500 spending limit....you can see if somehow you can transfer all of the funds to one card instead of using a number of different cards...Congrats!!!!
