SO i recently got braces and i have a overbite and i was wondering why i dont have rubberbands/? and also when i go for my monthly checkup it doesnt seem like they tighten it.
I had an overbite when I got braces too. My dentist waited a few months before giving me rubberbands - I think he has to align your jaw correctly before correcting the overbite.
PS. They make your mouth pretty sore when you first get them, so good luck!
It depends on how bad your overbite is. If it's not that bad, your orthodontist might be going more easy on it. They usually tighten it the most during your last year of wearing it anyway I think, so you might get your elastics during your last months. Some people, I believe, still have overbites even after they take their braces off but the overbite is just much smaller than before. Like me, for an example. I had a serious overbite so I had to wear a headgear at home the first time and then my ortho gave me elastics too later. You could ask your orthodontist directly why he's not giving them to you. They're really annoying but it's good that you have a desire to straighten your teeth as soon as possible.
You think you're involved in some kind of dental scam? Like they're just gonna leave you in braces forever and bilk you out of money for monthly visits?
Be glad you're not stuck with painful adjustments or rubber bands yet. If you have ?s about what's going on, ASK! It's your mouth! If you think that you can handle bigger adjustments, ask your orthodontist if that would help speed up the process. Let him/her know that you don't feel any pain after the checkups and you're wondering how the adjustments are progressing.
Maybe your orthodontist doesn't realize you're some kind of super-hero, oblivious-to-pain type and you have the willpower to get your braces off sooner. Ask about it.
You will get the rubber bands when the braces have had a chance to move your teeth.
And they are tightening your braces, but probably not enough for you to feel it. Maybe you can tell them and they'll tighten them more, but then again you may regret that move!!! lol ;o)
They'll eventually get tighter and tighter, so don't worry even if you don't ask them to tighten it more.
Just do as you're instructed and keep your teeth clean and it'll be just fine.
Braces are the first line of treatment for overbite.
I applaude you for getting braces. Many kids think its the pits and restricts their chances of being socially accepted or even kissed by the opposote sex.
The upside is that when its all over your will have great looking teeth and a corrected bite. So stick with it and flaunt it .
I love girls who are brave and intelligent enough to care for the teeth they get my vote anyday.
Well, if you recently got them on, you won't get them for awhile. It depends on how long you are gonna have braces for. I got my rubber bands during the last year of wearing braces. I don't know why they wait until the last year of wearing them, but that's what happened to me and my friends. Believe me, they'll seem pretty cool at first, but after that, they are SO annoying to wear!!!!
it doesn't seem like they tighten it because the wire is small in the beginning and doesn't hurt.....yet and if you have an overbite that doesn't mean that you will get rubber bands i had an overbite and never got rubber bands and my teeth are nice and straight now
trust me they tighten it. and they use rubberbands to pull the jaw or a group of teeth where they need to be. Do what the ortho says and the sooner they come off! mine come off feb. 20!
some orthodontists do things differently, but they should be using the bands to pull ur bottom jaw back, it doesnt really feel pain when they tighten it at the moment the pain comes later on especally at night
