I need to pick up my prescription now because I will be out of town for a while and the time when I would usually get it, I wont be here. There is a specific date when they let me pick it up and no sooner. If I bring my prescription to a different pharmacy (example: walgreens instead of cvs) will they let me pick it up now or will they follow the same calendar date as the other pharmacy?

I had a pharmacy do this for me b/c I was going out of state to help my DIL while my son was in Iraq. It was a courtesy they did for me and mostly out of human compassion.
State to state-pharmacies generally have the same rules and regs no matter what chain it is or if its a single local pharmacy.
You need to go to or contact the pharmacy where you live and tell them you will be having the pharmacy where you are going request a transfer to the new pharm when its able to be filled.
If you are using a pharm that isnt a chain you wont be able to do this. (Well, the one will call the other if they can buts its a PITA and they usu wont)
If you are talking about getting a refill of a currently filled med, keep in mind that the receiving pharm will not be able to return the refill back (if its a recurring month to month script) to your hometown pharm when you get back.
To settle all of this, go back to your doc, tell him/her the circumstances and ask for a paper script, or ask them to contact the out of town pharmacy when you are able to have it filled. To show your honesty, remind them to cancel the refill waiting at the local pharm when they call (or fax) the out of town pharmacy.
I think the difference is just psychological... No offense intended. IF the prescription isn't exactly the same medication, then one of the two pharmacies messed up in filling your prescription. The meds all come from the same pharmaceutical manufacturer so there is absolutely no way they can differ EXCEPT if one was the original and one was a generic... If the effects are truly "vastly different" then I would suggest you bring this to both pharmacy's attention as there is a problem with one of their medications. Make sense?
unfortunately they cant just give it to you early, because far to many drug addicts that are using prescription drugs to get high would abuse this. I would suggest starting to ween yourself off the medication while you still have some left so you dont have to suffer withdrawals. (Assuming your medication if not taking would produce withdrawals.)
