Interestingly, 4 of the 5 that posted when I first saw the question didn't answer it. They pulled up ghosts from the past. Of the candidates that had thrown their hats in the ring for 2008, I would have picked Joe Biden. True, he's got to learn to spend a little more time thinking before he speaks, but he's far and away got the most experience in foreign policy, and depending on your view of the constitution and the extent of power the Federal government should exercise vs the states, that should arguably be the president's primary focus.
If the role of the vice president were to continue in the Cheneyesque mold, his qualification for the office of vp is undoubtedly far beyond any other candidate who has expressed an interest in serving. Not that I have any qualms about Obama. Whether he takes charge, as he seems poised to do, or relegates himself to the minor role that bush jr did, which is unlikely, I believe we'll be far better off than we've been during any of the republican administration in recent memory (and by recent, the last republican president who had a positive influence on this nation was Eisenhower).
F**k jfk, the coon lovin son of a byatch. It would be Nixon. He at least had the balls to stop us from dying in Nam. F**k obama the muslim bast**d. I hate any one that is voting for this blk bastch.

The question never mentioned 2008. It did say "old candidate that was running for president" and, "would you bring back."
My votes are: Ronald Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and George Washington.
Ronald Reagan
Huckabee
My personal favorite has always been Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota.
