In answer to your question "if you'r multiracial should you consider yourself a member of a particular race?" The Answer is: NO
The Reason is : There is only ONE RACE, called the HUMAN RACE. There are many cultures, belief systems, customs, and teachings. You might want to explore each of them and see how your inner Being responds.
It is my belief that all people, who have multi-cultural backgrounds will at different times (cycles) in their life experience that particular culture by desiring that music, food, lifestyle etc. There will be a time, when if you have the culture of a darker skinned heritage, then you will appear darker and if you also have the lighter skinned culture heritage, there will be times you will appear to lighten up for a while. Hair, Eyes, Features and Skin Color are changeable over the life cycle experience.
After you have experienced each of the cultures of your ancestors, then you will decide "who you are" and which culture fits you the best. At that point, just join in and experience and enjoy that culture. You are FREE to BE who you are, when you find out WHO you are. Know that you are one of the HUMAN RACE..but just have a diversified background. If this was not a truth, your bones, blood, organs etc. could not be treated by a doctor for the mass population. Basically all people are the same, but individuals because of the family inter-cultural marriages which produce children of mixed cultures.
Yes. My ancestors were German - moving to France and inter-breeding with God knows who.... The French part of the family came over to England in 1066 as part of the Norman Invasion and so after just under a 1000 years I'm born here in England. I look English, speak with an Olde English dialect and although I'm an expert winemaker and sort of appreciate my French ancestry. I'm bloody English and proud of it. Your nationality is the country you were BORN in!
I am a very white woman, with blonde hair and green eyes. As I am adopted, I had my DNA tested and found out that I am Northern European, Native American and Sub-Saharan African. I had never really considered being part African American before that, but now, especially since I know that it was my great-great-great-grandmother who was East African (mitochondrial DNA test and percentages) I have reevaluated myself.
I have ALWAYS ticked the "other" race option on forms which require it, then handwrote in "human" as my race. I never thought it really mattered WHAT race I was (but could always afford to think that as I look so dang white!LOL).
I consider myself, white, native american and east african. But mainly I consider myself human.
we need to stop putting races in categories for seperateness. you do need to feel a sense of belonging in your families ethnic origins however it is not important that you simply claim one race. most people of today have very blended backgrounds. I think you should be proud of your heritage and your ethnic background. I bet you are a very attractive person. what a wonderful blend you have. one day we will all be so well blended we will all be the same as it says in the Bible and that is as it should be.Good Luck !
I don't have an answer. I was just curious. I'm pretty much entirely caucasian, as far as I know, and my husband is completely African, so our baby will be biracial. I'm just exploring how he might be impacted by this. I'm hoping it's all positive.
