Is Canada more or less strict on gun ownership than the United States? Can you own handguns, rifles, and shotguns in Canada? Can you conceal and carry in Canada? I don't really know if Canada's provinces have their own gun laws but, in general, how would you say Canada compares to the U.S. in this regard? Thanks for any answers!

Canadians can own guns, shotguns, and pistols, but, not machine guns.
And, we can't carry ANY weapon for self defence, not even a stick. This includes mace, or pepper spray, a knife, or anything else. You can carry bear spray, if you are out in the bush, but, that's it.
Gun laws are Federal, so, there are no provincial changes. It is a bit harder to obtain a gun in Canada; one needs a "Firearms Acquisition Certificate," but, other than that, it is fairly easy. When they had the long gun registry, 7 million guns were registered. That does not include the many that were not. Yet, we have a LOT less gun crime than in the USA.

More strict.
Can you own handguns, rifles, and shotguns in Canada?
Yes.
Can you conceal and carry in Canada?
No. That is illegal, unless you work for law enforcement and have permission to do so.

Provinces do not have special laws for guns.
Read this and it will help you understand that in Canada, we do not have a right to bear arms, but we do have a responsibility to bear arms lawfully.

Though we can own a gun, like for hunting purposes, we can not just walk into a gun shop like in the US and buy a gun. the are strict procedures and certain documentation needed.
It is more strict. Canada's gun laws are around as strict as those in California.
The same assault rifle used in the Colorado theatre shooting is available for sale in Canada. All I need do is go to the store, show a permit and buy it.

The only nation that has ever attacked Canada in our history, twice,,, is our own neighbor - gun happy USA. Well they got their butts kicked in the attempt, yes Canadians have guns too, never lost a war we've been in - ever. We're very good with weaponry lol. Funny how the USA thinks guns aren't allowed in Canada, when they invaded did they not notice we were shooting back?
"Can you conceal and carry in Canada?"
Freedom means different things.
To a Canadian it means I don't need a gun, what on earth would I even want a concealed firearm? I do not fear a foreign invasion, I don't fear my own government and the day I start needing to arm myself against my own fellow Canadians and starting thinking 'armed schools' is a legacy to leave my own kids - I'll know my country is pretty messed up.
I walk my streets fearing nobody, I live my life fearing nothing, certainly not to the point I need a pistol at my hip and in my night table drawer... I mean cmon now. I think we do personal freedom better.

You don't need a pistol in your car.
I leave my door unlocked often, I haven't got a gun in the house.
I hardly need a clip that holds 200 rounds.
Just like driving a car, I need to prove i'm responsible enough to own a lethal weapon - reasonable.

We just don't shoot our own selves with them is all, "gun control" is a mindset more than anything with just common sense rules and applications.
