Can someone give me some hints on getting more power out of my prelude without adding performance parts to it? Im like broke and need some advice and tricks to make it a little bit faster.
these are a few things you can do but i don't recommend them. 1) remove your air filter box and filter, just leave the intake tube. 2)remove your exhaust from behind the header, save weight and free up exhaust. 3) remove anything from the car you don't need, save weight. 4) take off your ac compressor. 5) fill up with better gas. 6) remove your alternator, better make sure your battery is good and have someone around to help you get back home.
the thing is if you want more power its going to cost money.
first of all there is not any v4 autos, it is an inline-4 or I-4 for short. If the Prelude has the Vtec motor it would win palms down. you're conversing a drag race good? those autos actual could not be extra opposite in the place they make skill. The Honda makes it is skill way up intense yet almost no low end and the Camaro is opposite with numerous torque good off the bat yet complete slug above 4000rpm. If the Prelude isn't a Vtec then the Camaro might get the leap however the Prelude might start to capture up the longer the race is going on. The Camaro might in all probability win the 0-60 however the Prelude might win the 0-a hundred.
wash it and wax it. A clean car is more aerodynamic than a dirty one and always seems to drive faster.
How the heck do you expect to actually increase HP for free without doing anything to your car? Acetone in the gastank is a myth and will ruin your car. http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/acetone.asp
Just start slowly. First thing you should do is go down to a Monroe or something and get a professional engine treatment that will clean out your fuel injectors and the pistons of your car. I got the Blue Corral one once, it really worked wonders.
Other things:
Spark Plugs - Replace your spark plugs. Get the best sparkplugs you can find. I like the quad-head titaniums.
Oil/Fluids - go with a high quality full synthetic fluids, especially engine oil. Don't switch back and forth though.
Cold Air Intake - Get yourself a good Cold Air Intake (not just a K&N replacement filter) It will run you about $200-$300, but your car will breathe better.
Exhaust - Get yourself a more free flowing exhaust and don't forget about your headers! This will probably run you about $800-$1500, but with this and the Air Intake you're probably looking at your best HP gain (15-40)
Grounding Kit - Get one of those nice high quality grounding kits for your car. They're rather inexpensive and they are reported to make your car idle and run a little better.
Chip - Much less impressive for gas cars as deisel, but still probably your best bang for your buck. About $400 and you'll probably see about 5-25hp.
Turbo/Super Chargers - Alright, this is your best bang for your buck, but they're really expensive. You're looking at probably $3000-$10000 by the time you're done, but you're also looking at about 150-300hp gain.
Engine Work - again, expensive, but the gains are good. You could probably get yourself a stroker kit for not too much money and work on it yourself, but that requires some technical abilities.
Go find yourself a Honda forum, specifically a prelude forum. I'm sure they have them, and they'll have much more specific advice.
Chip the ECU. Adjust the valves on the head, make them open wider for more air/fuel mixture. Clean out the intake manifold. Change the oil give it a tune up.
The only free way to make the car faster is to get rid of weight. Take off any parts that you don't need. Remove the back seats, the spare tire, the jack, door panels. etc. Anything you don't need take off the car. Saving weight will make the car faster.
You cant be broke, and expect to trick out you car. Probably the most inexpensive thing you can do is to replace the engine "chip" to increase performance
