I'm trying to customize a laptop from HP and I'm torn between which processor to choose. I don't know a lot about processors, nor do I really understand computer language. This laptop will mainly be used for web surfing, multitasking, some gaming, some photo-editing, watching movies, and other basic tasks.
I basically just want to know if it's worth the extra 100 dollars to get the p7550 processor or if I should just stick with the t6600. I'm trying to save as much money as possible, but I'm also trying to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks!

Along with speed, you have to look at all the varibles and differences of both processors. First you have L2 cache which is 2mb on the t6600 vs. 3mb on the P7550. Then comes the T6600 being 35W vs. the P7550's 25W, which means a cooler running processor. Less wattage means more battery life and since it is running cooler you can actually get its full potential for longer period of time...
Hi there,
I tried picking up some compared information on the website of Intel. According to this result:
http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=37255,42014,
beside the difference of the CPUs frequencies, there are 2 other differences:
-the power usage of P7550 is less than the T6600 10W (P7550 uses 25W for operation)
-the System Bus: the T6600 has 800MHz speed of system bus is 800MHz while P7550 has 1066 MHz
although the T6600 is one of the most popular core's choice of many laptops at this time, if you want your laptop use her power effectively, I recommend the P7550.
The P7550 is about 10% faster than the T6600. I don't think it's worth $100 premium.
Update: Computerhelp702: The P7550 is a 2.26GHz CPU. I'm not sure where you got your numbers from, but they are not correct.
The is a minuscule difference is CPU clock speed.
The t6600 is clocked at 2.20GHz; the p7550 is clocked at 2.26GHz.
You will not see a difference there.
Where you will see the difference is the FSB.
The FSB is a higher frequency in the p7550.
The cache is also bigger in the p7550.
So, it may be worth upgrading... but I don't think it's worth an extra $100.
You will see better performance with the p7550, but not by much.
the more ghz the better
get the p7550 because its 2.6ghz
and
t6600 is only 2.2ghz which is for very very basic computing
always get a 2.4ghz+
