After the AthlonXP vs. Pentium 4 wars of the early 2000s, Intel took a bit of a low blow to AMD stealing a lot of their customer.... and a lot of their revenue. Ever since then Intel has always had the upper hand on performance and power efficiency.
However if ur a performance nut, at this point in time, Intel is the go to brand for performance...
however if ur a casual user who just wants a descent high performance desktop... my usual advice is just build an all AMD system and save urself some money and you will get excellent performance for what u pay and from and end user point, it may feel the same as a more costly Intel system.
For laptops, AMD has never been anywhere near as power efficient as Intel so for sheer battery life i usually say go Intel on mobiles.
Depends on what you need out of a processor, you're if into cutting edge gaming on need as much processing power as possible then Intel is the choice since they have the cutting-edge processors like the i7.
If though you're a normal computer user or even just an average gamer then AMD is the better choice because compared to Intel, their processors are miles cheaper and offer similar performance to Intel's lower offerings. Plus, those cost savings can go towards either other better computer parts (such as graphics cards), to games or whatever.
At the high end- Intel. If you can afford to spend more, Intel has superior CPU designs, especially in the Core i5 and Core i7 lines.
But if you're on a budget, AMD offers stronger processors for the same price. A $150 AMD Phenom II X4 is superior to any $150 Intel CPU. A $99 Athlon II X4 is better than any $99 Intel CPU.
So it all depends upon how much you're looking to spend.
I would take the AMD because I have experience with them as a builder and the Phenom ll X4 965 is the same price as my favorite Intell the E8600 ; they also have similar speeds and it is my personnal compromise. But this is where the line is drawn in the sand between the two companies, so Intel reaches further.

That depends.
Intel has had the edge in processor performance for a few years now. But AMD has a better price point.
I have always been an AMD guy, this is my 6th personal build in ten years with an AMD CPU and I have not had ONE problem.
Intel.
Intel!
The never-ending debate!
AMD is generally less expensive per GHz.
I run AMD, but bleh, they're both really good. It used to be that AMD was more for gaming (so I heard), but it really hardly matters.
intel dude.
get intel core2duo
