I'm building a computer and i ordered a Nvidia 9800gt GPU and i was planning on getting an Intel I5 processor but i know that Intel's prices are a little higher than they should be and that i could get an AMD processor and motherboard of equal strength for a bit less money. One of my friends told me that an Intel processor would probably be more compatibly with the GPU but i was wondering if this was true and if not, which one should i get.

Ok- first of all, WHY IN THE WORLD you use a Nvidia 9800GT graphics card for a new build??? That is a very old card! And not that great anymore. You can get a last generation (500 series) card from Nvida like the GTX 550Ti for a really good price now. My recommendation is not to go below a GTX 560 (since you mentioned gaming), and preferably a GTX 560Ti, which is the go-to card for the gamer on a budget right now. But a 9800 GT? Wow! No way. Please don't put that old card in a new build.
Now...about the CPU. AMD versus Intel.
There really is no reason to go with AMD at this point if you have the choice. They are not better for gaming, for multi-tasking, for heavily threaded tasking and video encoding. Do they sell cheaper CPUs than Intel, well, yes they do. But performance wise, they cant touch Intel and are falling farther and farther behind with each generation.
I would get either an Intel i5 2400, or if you can come up with just a tad more $, a i5 2500 or i5 2500k. These are great gaming CPUs and nothing AMD makes can currently touch them.
That one answer [Mohit] who said AMD procs are better for gaming is either drunk or being sarcastic. I'm not sure which one.
As far as AMD or Nvidia cards going better with an Intel processor, that is not true. They both work just fine. I have an AMD Radeon HD 6950 paired up with my i7 2600. And they love each other.
the respond is relative on your needs or for why you want the counsel. Technically Intel has the main stepped forward processor in accordance with benchmarking checks. yet AMDs severe end CPUs would do extra advantageous than you want or want them to do and you will save various hundred earnings all danger. So in case you want the quickest, maximum pwerful of the two then the best end Intel, on the 2nd is the perfect.yet a severe end AMD will maximum probable fulfill your needs, and maximum folk of peoples needs. If processors have been loose seize some Intels, yet in view that they arent, evaluate your ideas. Processor potential dollar fee is yet another subject rely to look into. In a year or 2 this concern may well be reversed, so its no longer an enduring concern.
Intel's prices are a little higher, but they blow anything AMD has right now away, and the benchmarks prove it.
Even a Core i3 2120 will mostly beat anything AMD has out right now in gaming performance.
Edit- That "rumor" that Intel processors don't run AMD cards as good is completely false.
Intel, even at the same ghz and cache, will be faster because of the design. If you're planning to have your pc for many years, intel CPUs are also more reliable.
AMD processors are good for gaming as compare to intel. But if you're not making gaming pc then i advice to use Intel processor.
in i5 processor.s you will get turbo boost technology where the frequency increases whenever ur pc needs . Plus more cache memory... go for intel !
