IRS Data Retrieval Tool? Financial Aid Question?
For the year of 2010 -2011 I did not file taxes and neither did my parents. I am enrolling in a local commuity college and after completing my form, I received a letter regarding the FA office needing the IRS Data tool info? I do not know where on the form am I to select such info, honeslty I do not think I can provide the school with such info hence I did not file in the year of "10-11 .
Should I contact my FA Advisor and let them know this info?

If you and your parents did not file tax returns, and you weren't required to, you should correct your FAFSA to say "I'm not going to file" (or "My parents are not going to file") for the question that asks if you have completed a tax return. Your school will then know that you don't need to use the DRT.
If you haven't filed yet, but you are required to, you can choose the answer "will file" and estimate the answers for the tax questions. You must then correct your FAFSA to include the correct information from your return when you do file. If you choose "will file" most schools will select your FAFSA for verification. You will then have to provide documentation that your answers are correct. If you file, you can use the DRT or provide a transcript of your return that you obtain from the IRS. If you are a non-filer, you would normally be required to provide copies of your W-2 forms, if you are wage earners, or documentation of any other sources of income (such as social security, investment income, etc.)
For an answer that is specific to your situation, you should contact the financial aid department at your school.
I have no idea..You can also wish to name the department and ask. However achieve this ASAP, in view that should you don't, you are going to lose your aid. And that sucks, because you'll ought to pay out of pocket. And when you are not able to you can't start next semester or get your transcript if you're planning to attend a different college.
