El Caminos were not converted from one thing to another.
It is a particular model name of a vehicle.
It is a passenger automobile. In all ways.
Richard, it is not up to the insuance company "to call it" anything.
It IS a passenger automobile, NO a light truck.
Why? Because of the safety standards. Auto makers didn't start using the light truck class to avoid safety features til the advent of the "minivan"......long after the El Camino and Ranchero.
The biggest factor in it is the motor size. It's a car, Some would be labeld a 2 door coup, others a Sports coup.. Regardless its' a car, HOWEVER, some insurance companies may label it a truck.. Have to ask the individual compnay.. Call them and ask... IF you have the VIN you can input it on their website and it will bring up everything... That's the best way to do it that way if an accident happens your not out of luck becuase you had information that wasn't right...
