Yes i think he will, he has taken on a country at its worst and is still optimistic about progressing, everyone can make promises that is true but i think this is a change for the best...!
Obviously only time will tell but he cant be worse than bush now can he???
Obama has a tough job ahead of him, and many of the reforms he wishes to put in place may have to be put on hold, while he tries to sort out the dump of trash left behind by the previous administration.
Creating a Welfare State on the scale of the British Welfare State and NHS including a state pension for all citizens, is not going to be possible. Not in four years nor yet in eight years, should Obama be elected for a second term.
I think Obama is a good man at heart, but even he must know that he cannot meet all of his promises.
Good luck to him and I hope he at least achieves something, maybe a better healthcare system for all Americans and not just a few rich folk.
He needs to get Corporate America onside. They are at the moment paying the total cost of healthcare for their own workforce/employees. However, with something like and NHS, they would only pay half the cost, since the employee would have to pay a weekly/monthly insurance fee.
You kidding me? The damage has already been done. I left 3 years ago for Australia. I suggest people do the same. Obama's policies will take at least 20 years. I dont have 20 years of patience. Im a libertarian and hate those people who dont ever intend to work. America NEEDS big companies to give lazy people jobs. YOU GET WHAT U PUT IN AMERICA, NO FREE LUNCH. Some are cool with that, others arent. Im not. HE wont get healthcare u kidding me? This is why i left, but at the same time I appreciate the big shots in the USA who keep the economy running. Why do lazy people have a sense of entitlement.
Throughout the history of our nation our forefathers and best loved presidents have all had the same attributes, those qualities that are present in all great leaders with the ability to galvanize and lead their people through harsh times into a promised and attainable future. Those qualities that make them uniquely suited for the job. And all, in their own times destined for greatness.
History has proved that among these attributes is not previous experience, having to endure tedious years or even decades in public service building a resume that demonstrates their ability to be competent civil servants. In fact it is the contrary, it is the freshman who is bright eyed and headstrong, ignorant of the way things are “supposed to be done” one who is not only willing but eager to change the status quo even if it means stepping on a few toes along the way.
Beyond that their qualifications are innate. Fist there is the aptitude for elegant, and persuasive speech the power to express strong emotions with striking and visceral language , thereby producing conviction and determination in their audience. Second an ability to project their own perceived worthiness of veneration and arouse fervent devotion and enthusiasm. Which brings us to the third and I dare say the most controversial. “Physical appearance” , though the first two attributes alone are enough to get a person started on the path to greatness, being tall dark and handsome can’t possibly hurt. And by all studies I’ve seen on the matter makes a person seem even more eloquent(1st) and even more charismatic(2nd). Throw in single minded determination (which can get your hat in the ring but can not get you elected) add a little modesty and the ability to take responsibility for your own actions, collect an army of people who share “your“ belief in “you” and there you have the makings of a great president…
Ps. Not to say President Obama won’t suffer any conflict or controversy while in office but if this country is willing to turn a blind eye to stumbling, bumbling, out right lying and incompetence of George W. then I can only imagine how Mr. Obama will be able to take any difficulty during his administration bear it’s weight fully then pour honey in our ears and make us love him for it.
I Think He Will, "Nobama" Supporters Are Just Putting Him Down Making It Seem Like He's Gonna Fail, Well That's What People Thought Of Regan When He Was In Office But He Showed Them He Was Bout Da Biz.
NO. Everyone always mentions change but never says what kind of change. He will in fact change in a bad way. He will give your hard earned $$ (tax) and give it to the lazies in the country that want to sit around and collect from the gov. Plus he will put small business out of business cause they wont be able to afford health care for their employees. Then why work if you can get free health care from the gov, and live on social programs? The first thing he said he wants to do is make every abortion legal :( BAD CHANGE. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE UNEDUCATED. It really is sad.
WONDERMOM... NOT true, this time people a lot of people voted for him just cause he is black. This election, more blacks voted more than any other time EVER.
I agree w/ ridder. And he will put this country more in debt.
Well according to Obama he can fix all the problems we are having. With just a wave of his hand he can do ANYTHING wait and see how much back peddling he does...the first thing I want to see is my $1000.00, then for him to keep his promise not to raise my taxes. How is he going to pay for all his special programs without any more money coming in? Only time will tell and I for one am keeping a tally.

At least, that's how it works here in UK.

George bush faced Mecca with a gun in his hand,
Obama will be holding his copy of the Koran.
He's started out well by getting straight to work and voicing his intensions to include Republicans in the cabinet as well as Democrats.
This shows the President-elect's inclusive character, which is the unifying leadership that the US needs very much.
He's a smart, articulate and worldly man, which gives him a head-start over many of his predesessors.
AS with any politician, time will be the true telling.

He's endeavoring to take us on a far better path than Bush, so Obama's footsteps will be his own.
We won't know for two years from Jan, 2009.
