My personal understanding is that one can be depressed without exhibiting psychological impairment. It would appear from the above that in order to be diagnosed as being *clinically* depressed, one would need to be exhibiting psychological impairment.
it's categorized as a mood disorder also known as the "common cold" of mental illness. A mental illness is basically the main genre and then the sub genres are mood disorder, anxiety, etc
If it's making you feel unwell, full of anxiety and as if you don't want to live, then yes.
I had a bou of it recently and kept having intrusive thoughts ad anxiety attacks. It really isn't great and wears you down. Since then i've learned that's it's just part of getting down and anxious about life, and I feel back to my old self. The horrible thoughts have stopped and I feel as if i never had them.
