Hi I'm a sophomore in high school with a couple questions about computer engineering I would like to know if computer engineering is within my realm of possibility. I do well in school with a 3.9 GPA and Ive always done very well on standardized testings. What I mean is, do I have a shot at computer engineering, or is it one of those things where only certain types of people are cut out for it? I'd like to know that above all else so I don't commit to something that I won't be able to do anyway. I've asked a question similar to this before and didn't quite get what I was looking for

Yes it is very realistic if you are considering going into software development (software engineering), hardware engineering is expected to plummet in the next 7 years, as job growth is expected to grow 9% (below average). This is due to the focus in innovating software such as computer chips in household appliances, medical devices, or automobiles. Software development, on the other hand is expected to grow 30% in the next 7 years (much faster than average). There are a couple of career paths to consider if you decide to go into SD:
Applications software developers, : design computer applications, such as word processors and games, for consumers. They may create custom software for a specific customer or commercial software to be sold to the general public. Some applications software developers create complex databases for organizations. They also create programs that people use over the Internet and within a company’s intranet.
Salary, $87,790 a year, with the lowest being $54,360, and the highest, $133,110
Systems software developers: create the systems that keep computers functioning properly. These could be operating systems that are part of computers the general public buys or systems built specifically for an organization. Often, systems software developers also build the system’s interface, which is what allows users to interact with the computer. Systems software developers create the operating systems that control most of the consumer electronics in use today, including those in phones or cars.
Salary, $94,180, with the lowest being, $61,040 and the highest, $143,330.
To become a SD, you must get a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering and strong computer-programming skills. It would be wise to get a degree in computer science since it covers an array of topics that you can apply in other areas such as computer and information systems management ($115,780/annually) or computer and information research science ($100,660). Some employers may require a master's degree. While in school, your class schedule should include courses related to building software and programming, although programming may be covered in mandated courses.
It will also help to acquire skills in the industry you plan to work in. For example, if you plan to work in a bank, you should have knowledge of finance so that you will understand the bank’s computing needs.
So again this is very possible for you as long as you pick one of these booming markets, and willing to apply yourself. Everything you will need to learn will be throughout college, with the first two years focusing on the basics, and last two more advanced, hands-on teaching. You may also, want to invest in an small introductory course to computer programming to give you an advantage while in school. Many can be completed online, i've used this site to find info on online courses myself:

You also, can find accredited computer science and software engineering programs here: http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.a...
hope this helps!
That could be a very vague query.... For instance, i'm finding out to be a computer engineer, in Bombay, India. There are thousands of me within the nation, so we're a dime a dozen and really, very expendable. The good news is companies are hiring wholesale, with opening salaries upto 28,000. A achievable alternative of path, is to do an MS (if that you could find the money for one), or an MBA!
