Fast forward to Q3 2007. Which processor line do you think will be more powerful: AMD's next gen (Altair) or Intel's Core 2. AMD's chips are expected to debut between 2.4 and 2.9 ghz, which matches Intel, but Intel's chips are easily overclockable...

DONT LISTEN TO THIS ROBERT D. CLOWN - THE GUY IS AN IDIOT
OK - as far as the quad cores coming out - experts are saying that AMD's version (4x4) will be a TRUE quad core and thus perform a litter faster in theory. Intel Kentfield (QX6700) is 2 6800 Conroe extremeson 1 chip - kind of a stop-gap attempt to keep pounding AMD lately.
forget about clock settings (Ghz) it is the measuring stick of yesteryear. (a 2 Ghz Conroe will run circles around any thing (even the 3.6 Ghz Pentiums))
we wont see the benefits of the quad cores or see which is better until a year or so - there isnt much multithreaded software out there to take advantage of multiple cores....
My opinion - AMD will make a comeback in 2007
They kicked intel's but for the last 7 years - and intel cameback recently with Conroe - dont count out the little guys - its also interesting they bought ATi for $5 billion - integrated grfx on the CPU ?!?!
AMD has had the Technology for awhile, but intel has stepped up and i think in the next few years we're gunna see some things from intel, but in my opinion, dual core, quad corre...i dont see that much difference the computer i built has a simple HT core and its still runs faster and im able to multitask more than my moms dual core PC, it all depends on the GHZ =)
I would Research it a little more if i were you.
because, Intel, In my opinion, is slipping..
AMd, has had Dual core capabilities for years, with there multitask processors, theyve been releasing for a while..
Honestly, if i were you, I would go towards intel's Quad core...
Because, THey are being used in alot of Alienwares Systems now..
and Arent Alienwares supposed to be up with the best??
then again, i Built my computer myself, And Its not Core 2, or Quad core, And i run Faster and more Efficient, then some of the brand new computers on the market...
it all depends on if you know how to manage your computer..
Because Either way, If you catch a Virus/worm/trojan etc...., It Doesnt matter how fast your computer is, It will go down eventually..
Ive Fixed hundreds of virus containing computers this year with dual cores..
and its all the same.
Your welcome,
Hope This Helps.
