I adopted my 4 month old puppy from the local pound. She was okay for the first few days that we had her, but she was sneezing a lot. After a few days she started coughing instead of sneezing. It's a really weird cough, almost like she's about to throw up, but instead white foamy phlegm stuff comes out. She also has a lot of green stuff coming out of her nose, with just a little bit of blood mixed in (i think the blood is just from having all this drainage). I went to the vet and he perscribed her antibiotics. He didn't say it was kennel cough, but I've been looking on the internet and all the symptoms are the same. I know that all I can do is give her her medicine and make sure she doesn't get worse, but I want to make her as comfortable as possible while she's sick. Does anyone have any ideas on speeding up the get well process?? or just making her more comfortable while she gets better?? thanks.

It's just like the flu in people, it just has to "run it's course".
Things to try:
Steam. It breaks up the congestion. Let the shower run hot and let her just breathe it for a while.
A warm bed. Drafts will prolong the illness.
Good food. Sick dogs won't eat sometimes. Try warmed up canned food. Warm chicken broth over kibble is welcome too.
hi. Kennel Cough is incredibly a risk, yet those indications can persist with to an excellent form of respiratory ailments. He could be considered via a vet. asap. do not wait until your appointment in 9 days. Vets do not do ellective surgical technique on ill animals. FYI to each and all the readers available. Kennel Cough could nicely be easily vaccinated for as a domestic dog, and could be carried out on a each year foundation. Many breeders, and puppy vendors do not do this, and this could nicely be an uncomplicated restoration to dodge a destiny concern. For those of you who think of your canines can not get this, think of back. Any canines in a public section or around different canines can get Kennel Cough.
Yep, that sounds like kennel cough (Bordetella). Basically, all you can do is give the prescribed meds and let it run its course. My dog had it earlier this year, and she was also given a cortisone shot and some meds for the cough. She got over the really bad coughing within a few days, but still did occasionally for a couple weeks.
It's kennel cough!! He probably put her on Clavamox. Make sure she takes all the medicine and when she starts her coughing spell try to distract her and that should make it so she doesn't cough!!
Keep her away from other dogs for at least 2 weeks until symptoms are gone
Most likely it's kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection. Either one of these is an easy fix with antibiotics. I would make sure that she does not get around other dogs because even if they have been vacinated they can still get it easily.
Kennel cough is similar to a cold, so it has to run its course.
Sorry.
