Here's my situation. I filled out my fafsa on time for the current fall 2011 semester (so its in the system). I enrolled in courses at a community college, paid out of pocket and decided to work while going to school without the loans and grants. Well I was laid off last week and am wondering if it is too late to process loans for the current semester. The school never awarded me an aid package for the semester because I did not submit a verification worksheet (since I decided not to use financial aid all together). I know its late but would it be possible since the fafsa is already complete? I'm a VA resident attending a VCCS community college if that helps answer the question. Thanks in advance!
Update:Kyle Busch is an ***, I DO NOT CARE IF I GET THE AID PROCESSED IN 6 MONTHS. MY QUESTION IS....(ID MAKE THE CAPS LARGER SO YOU COULD COMPREHEND THIS).....IS IT TOO LATE!? AS IN A CUT OFF DATE, DEADLINE, ETC. I honestly do not care if they put my application under the building containing the stack of fin aid applicants. I am simply asking if there is a final deadline. I don't need you to tell me how late I a, I had zero intentions of borrowing the money in the first place. Thank you to the other poster. They are out of the office for the day so I figured Id ask before going in tomorrow morning.

Best thing for you to do is take a nice visit to your academic counselor, I'm sure they'll have all the answers for you. Something should be able to be done. THERE IS HOPE! :) Not really a good answer... but it will be sure to help.
Your FAFSA is not considered complete if you did not submit the verification process because that process assures the accuracy of your application. They ask you to send them documentation so that they can verify the accuracy. There is usually a date they need this by on the request for the documentation. Until you do this your FAFSA is not complete. I understand your situation in that you were not going to use federal loans and grants because you were working and could afford it (though if i were you I would have still done it to see if I got any grants instead of paying out of pocket) so you did not submit the documentation. Then you lost your job and now need the federal aid help. The question is, is it too late. Usually they really want the documentation by the date they specify. However, if I were you I would call your college financial aid office, explain your situation and ask them. I do know that very often they will give out financial aid late even after the deadline if they have some left, not always but they do and some not all do that. What I do not know if you not returning the verification documents will hinder your getting aid in general.
Never pay out of pocket, see what aid you get offered first.
You can ask FAFSA questions here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/contact.htm
But I would call your college financial aid office as well.
Using our local community college as an example...
if someone did not get their Fin Aid done in time for Fall, then NO it can't be retro-actively applied... what we were told was that because we were 3 days past the June 1 deadline for Fall 2010 was that it was possible that any Pell Grant could be applied retroactively but not loans and they added "because you were so close to the deadline".... we received Fin Aid award letter shortly before Mini II started, so this meant that Pell could be applied to current semester
However, in your case, you are likely past the deadline for submitting Fin Aid package for Spring 2012... most schools had Fin Aid deadlines of early October for Fin Aid processing
With this, I would be surprised if you could get any loans in place even for next semester. Possible Pell Grants for Spring 2012. I can't imagine there will be a way to process anything for the Fall semester
VCCS Fin Aid contacts are here: http://www.vccs.edu/Students/FinancialAid/Financia...
Look for the one at your school & contact them to find out if there is anything you can do
