How is JFK's presidency viewed. With the Bay of Pigs disaster, escalation in Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis near disaster, spread of communism, etc, it would seem his presidency would be considered a complete disaster. But here in Massachusetts he is talked about like a god... Is that because I'm in Mass? How bad was his presidency and how does the rest of the country view him?

In all actuality, his presidency was pretty disastrous at best. His saving grace was two fold, first that he was assassinated in office and second, that he had the genius of Art Schlesinger working for him spinning that disaster into "Camelot." The rest of the country is pretty ignorant of facts. They think of Jack Kennedy and get all warm and fuzzy inside.
As for me, I still have a hard time with "Camelot" knowing that he intentionally sent 2,510 men to their graves in all of 4 days (Bay of Pigs). Strikes me as more of a monster than a "hero."
1. Bay of Pigs: embarrassing debacle, unless it had succeeded.
2. Vietnam: JFK was no fan of major U.S. involvement in Vietnam. The expansion of the war was Johnson's doing. JFK likely would have taking an entirely different approach.
3. Cuban Missile Crisis: masterfully handled in all respects by the administration.
4. Spread of communism: other than Cuba, not much changed in that regard during his presidency.
That's how it was viewed by one who was in college and the military during those times.
In Mass. the Kennedy name is Godlike. When J.F.K. was elected I was 12. At time of death a sophomore in high school. A teacher came to our classroom and told us what had happened. From my point of view he was a martyr. Oswald was a confirmed communist. He acted alone during the cold war with Russia. Our first Catholic president, the youngest, and in many way's My president. That's how I saw it. An American tragedy. A commi killed our leader. I'm sorry but I still hold a grudge.
Well, yes, in Massachusetts, the entire Kennedy family are gods to one degree or another. How else would you account for members getting away with the things that they have done? Only gods can do things that would be considered evil if done by us mortals. In general, ALL of the Liberal politicians (Not that JFK himself was a liberal) are gods of the religion of liberalism that passes itself off as a part of the democrat party (with the blessings of the democrats).
