He doesnt want me to tell the cops but im a little worried he will try to take matters into his owm hands. Will a cop let me give them information without telling him where he got it?

Yes... but cops aren't looking out for your his best interests. If your cousin doesn't want you telling them, I wouldn't because it could incriminate him on something. Or worse, he could face retaliation especially if it's gang-related.
MYOB and stay far away from anything having to do with criminal activity, whether you're an active participant or not.
-For objectivity's sake, you CAN remain anonymous when providing information to the police.
This is a personal opinion and does not consititute any type of legal advice. You may want to seek legal counsel in your community regarding this matter.
I can only assume (based on the info provided) that your cousin has his own reasons for not wanting to involve the police. You have stated ---- 'my cousin u may call a criminal' ---- so further clarification is needed regarding 'how' and 'why' you believe your cousin is a criminal or that you have classified him as a criminal. ---- (Has your cousin represented/involved himself in past behaviors of criminal activity which may have led to previous involvement/arrest with/by law enforcement? )
--- There may be numerous 'reasons' that your cousin is reluctant to involve the police. For instance: 1. There could be an "underlying situation/event/criminal activity" which may be involved with the 'carjacking' that you are not aware. 2. Your cousin may think that the 'cops' will not treat him fairly based upon his 'criminal reputation/history'. 3. Your cousin may not want the 'cops' asking alot of questions. 4. Your cousin may know the 'carjackers' and does not want to be 'classified' as a 'snitch' on the streets. 5. Your cousin might be concerned with possible retalitation by the 'carjackers' and or the 'carjackers' friends. 6. Your cousin may not be the 'criminal' as known by the use of the word 'criminal' by society/law enforcement, etc. (the list can go on and on.)
----------------- There is no doubt that your cousin has been a victim of a crime. There is no doubt that your cousin is aware that he can report the crime to the local law enforcement. ---- There is no doubt that reporting the 'carjacking' to the local authorities would benefit ALL citizens in the community. There is no doubt that holding the 'carjacking thugs' accountable for their criminal behavior is the responsible action to take.
---- Your cousin has decisions to make regarding this situation.
If your cousin is the 'owner' of a vehicle that is being used by 'carjackers' then some of the facts your cousin may want to consider: FACT: -Your cousin's car has been carjacked and is being driven by 'persons' that could have a serious accident and/or commit crimes with the vehicle (which will result in police involvement/investigation). -----which will further result in Your cousin (if owner of the vehicle) being held accountable/responsible for any/all damages that these 'carjackers' might do with the vehicle. As well, Your cousin could be implicated in the crimes of the carjackers if he fails to report the vehicle stolen. etc. ------ One way or the other this situation will come back on your cousin which will involve 'bigger' questions involving the 'why' he did not report the carjacking and/or that the car was stolen, --- which will lead to further investigation. - Fact: Law enforcement will be asking the same questions, but with far more suspicion since your cousin did not report the matter. -------There are many details left out of your inquiry that may be vital to the decisions made in this situation. I do recommend that you talk this matter over with your parents and/or someone very familiar with your cousin and the lifestyle choices he has made in the past. -- It is also recommended that your cousin seek the counsel of a local attorney to explore the situation (that is to say if your cousin is fearful of being implemented in criminal activity, etc). --- This is certainly a situation that requires responsible thinking and immediate action. (This matter could 'snow ball' into something bigger and worse.) Hope this helped you in some manner.

Yes, just go to police and say all you know. They won't tell anyone if you ask them not to.
I think you should keep your nose out, its your cousins business not yours
