Premiums have gone up since Obamacare passed. Why? The only way people can protest high insurance premiums to not buy insurance until the premiums go down. Now that they must buy insurance or face jail time, companies are free to raise premiums as much as they want.
Update:No one forces you to buy food. The USDA also engages in price controls for food.

obviously George W Bush and Dick Cheney are trying to sabotage "The One"!
If we would have been able to pass a health care bill that included the public option that would have been taken care of. It was Republicans and their corporate sponsors that kept out the public option. If the govt can offer health insurance at lower premiums then the insurance companies have to come down to stay competitive. The health care bill proposed by Democrats would definitely have lowered costs. The bill that we got was approved by insurance companies so I am sure there will be more premiums going up but overall costs have still been going down.
Premiums go up because medical costs are going up. And that is the biggest legitimate complaint about Obama care in that is does not address the escalating cost of medical services. They would be going up with or without Obama care. The republicans have no plans to address that either because addressing the costs means that for-profit medical service businesses will get less money. In fact Obama care only passed Republican filibuster because it was enjoined from doing anything to lower costs or compensation to medical businesses.
What Obama care does is spread the costs more broadly so that everyone currently paying would pay less. And that is what the mandate is about - getting 30-40 million more people to pay into the system. But the mandate has not kicked in yet. Premiums are going up because costs are going up. And even when the mandate kicks in it will only slow or stabilize the increases. Costs will go down if people are healthier, need less intensive end of life care and the practice of medicine moves away from procedures and hardware and toward molecular based therapies.
Premiums have been going up for a lot longer than Obama has been President. Forcing people to have insurance doesn't eliminate competition between insurance companies. Companies that provide it will continue to shop around for the best rate.
My premium went up by 5% this year, but should have gone up more. My employer is eating much of the increase.
By this reasoning, my dinner should cost me several million dollars, because everybody is required to eat if they want to live.

Not to mention the fact that the jail time you refer to is, in point of fact, a fine (and possibly jail time if you fail to pay that). Presumably there is a point at which people will pay the fine, rather than buy a much more expensive insurance plan.

What does it matter whether the need to buy is a law or basic necessity of life? Your argument is "everybody has to buy it, so the companies will just raise prices endlessly". Which completely ignores the fact that the companies have to compete with one another for customers. I'm sorry, I'm not even a fan of Obamacare, but what you posted here simply makes no sense.
i think many each and every person is beginning as much as awaken to the certainty this Obama-care as government administration of our healthcare (& life/dying). It has no longer something to do with healthcare yet greater proscribing our freedom of determination from cradle-to-grave. many of the politicians are in mattress with this prepare harm making it almost impossible to end. exciting to word that the political and elite "type" have their own wellness plan that isn't something as unfavourable as this.
The trouble with this is that the law to which you are referring does not go into effect for another two (2) years.
So.... how can it affect you now?
My premiums have gone down. You are a liar
I can't answer since I'm not a liberal.
