how to express this in a single log?
how do you combined if the second quantity has 2 in front of log?
2 log a = log a² ∙ ∙ ∙ ∙ ∙ power rule, so
log y – 2 log (y – 1) =
log y – log (y – 1)² =
log [ y / (y – 1)² ]
log y - 2log (y-1) = log (y/(y-1)^2) = log y/(y^2 - 2y -1)
If you just write "log", the 10 is assumed. When it's to another base, you must write the number
