From Central London, take the London Underground to Bank station. From there, take the Dockland Light Railway (DLR) to London City Airport. Central London to the Airport by Tube and DLR will be £2.70 / £2.20 Oyster PAYG (depending on Peak or Off-Peak) or £4 cash.
By road, if your coming from the north, south or east, come round the M25 towards the Dartford Crossing, and take the A13 towards Docklands. The airport will be sign posted on the left. If your coming from the west, follow the M4 into central London, and then follow the A406 (North Circular).
Advantages of using City airport are that you can check in 15 minutes before hand with hand luggage, and only 20 minutes with checked luggage. The terminal has also just undergone a multimillion pound refurbishment, but this has come at a cost (which has to be picked up by the passenger). As well as having to pay a premium on airport fees and taxes, because airlines only use smaller jets from City airport, there are less passengers aboard, meaning you have to pay more to fly in such luxury.
I've done lots of work with LCY and flown from there many times. It is essentially a business airport and the flight costs reflect this (in other words it tends to be expensive). Most of the destinations are commercial capitals in Europe.
Getting to and from the airport is relatively simple using the DLR (Docklands Light Railway).
LCY has a 15-minute check-in policy (with hand luggage only) which is a fabulous bonus.
