Find something to do that interest you. Hang out with friends, visit with family, chat on line,or volunteers with an organization that needs volunteers. Don't just stay home and watch TV that's the worse thing to do. You need to get out and be around other people. Than the loneliness will slowly disappear.
You occupy your time with things you like to do. Like read listen to music. If you feel the need for human company you go out and make friends. You try to surround yourself with people you like. There will always be times when you feel lonely. I think we all do at some time. Some more than others. If you have someone you love and would like to be closer to. Like a partner. Its a very tough thing to deal with. I always find it wierd how some people actually like being a lone for long periods of time. Maybe these people talk to themselves i dont know. I have learned to be at peace for greater lengths of time. Overall though i think some like company so you need to seek out these types of people.
The best way to overcome loneliness. Is to never give up hope, and to fight the fear, and live as honorably and honestly as you can. I think as long as you do your best in life, no matter what happens, you can at least sleep at night knowing that you did all you could do, and the rest was up to fate.
Get to know yourself. Enjoy the quiet. Find things that interest you and do them. Meet new people. Try new things. Turn on the music really loud and dance and sing. Rearrange your furniture. Shop. Take a family member out for lunch. Go for a drive.

I go do things for other people. Volunteering is a quick way to feel needed and loved.
