some poms fur takes after the spitz...2 of my poms fur is like that but the pups fur turned out like the dads...i know my poms are full blooded because i had papers on them...i have a pup now thats got the poms fur and one with the spitz fur...the pom chi has the spitz fur...the 3 pups that are going on 2 weeks old i have i'm sure their all 3 going to have the spitz fur...they are getting their long fur in...

Probably your dog is spayed/neutered. They miss out on that real big fluffy coat once they are.

Though it could just be lack of grooming. That one with the big coat is a show pom, so that's the way the owner groomed him for the show.
