Do Los Angeles Sheriff department deputies quit alot? I just watched "The Academy" TV show and they had several big classes of students. So I was wondering if the department has a big quit rate or whatever for them to need so many new deputies.

The word you are looking for is overturn. Cops retire and some do quit. If 75 deputies retured in a year and population is on the rise than they may put 100 deputies on.
They (like most places) are regularly heavily understaffed and the washout rate can be up to 50% in an Academy, so they continually have to hire for vacant positions, as well as those for Deputies that are retiring, quitting or were fired. And as with most Agencies, they get more money every year or 3 for adding more Deputies so they have to fill those positions as well. LASD has nearly 8,500 Deputies and is growing.
If they do they have little reason. That force has had it's share of licks, they police some of the toughest places in the US. Heck almost every LASD I ever met was cool and someone to look up to, ( even if they were busting you, you felt guilty of a wrong ). Not many forces have had to deal with all the hype, rich Hollywood power, and LA's slums, and still be a Top Force of the world.
I am no cop, and have reasons of distrusting them. But I admit the LASD is awesome, and to think they may have a large turnaround can only be from poor recruits failing to meet the high standards.
Thumbs up for the LASD.
some get washed out -- some quit.. some dont make FTO.. some move to better paid agencies..
No, they don't quit, its due to the high crime rate in LA...
