I would have to say Locke because his father used him and had no desire to ever really be a father to him and then tried to kill him to cover his own butt to get money. But Locke had some mommy issues too.

Jack has some pretty good daddy issues. I have been watching season one again, and Christian is just horrible to Jack. The things that he said were awful. Christian was constantly telling Jack how he would never amount to anything and to just give up because he didn't have what it takes to make decisions and more mean stuff. That sort of thing can be really damaging too... And Jack's stuff happened from when he was a kid all the way through his adulthood. With Locke, most of it started later in life... at least Locke had foster parents to help him out, Jack was always stuck with Christian.

And yes, some of the others on the list have some major daddy issues, but the only two that come close to Locke and Jack are Kate and Ben... And Kate not as much, because the man she thought was her dad for so long was a good man, and even though Wayne was an abusive jerk to her mother, he wasn't nearly as horrible as he could have been to Kate... And as for Ben, Roger was hopeless...

I think the best father on the list is Horace (but then again we haven't seen much more than a baby Ethan, and we have never seen older Ethan interact with Horace)... So based on that Ethan and Horace are taken out of the race... I would say Penny or Hurley have the best dads. Both fathers care about their kids, but are just really horrible at expressing it. Charles Widmore really does care about Penny, but he just goes to extremes to show his care and uses his money and power to do it... like trying to get rid of Desmond. Widmore thought he was doing the right thing by Penny, he just didn't know anything about what his daughter wanted. And Hurley's dad came back (true, there was money involved) but he did try his best to bond with his son again.

Of course Jack has one of the worst. Then I'd say Miles. This is based on ongoing conflict. Sun, may or may not have anything to worry about.

Alex had a good father in Ben based on the relationship. He just made a bad choice that got her killed. But its over now.

Claire's issue seems resolved.

Hurley gets along with his dad pretty well now that he's returned and with the family.

Kate ended her issues.

Locke ended his issues and has come to peace with it all.

Penny has nothing to do with her dad. Maybe not now.

Sawyer doesn't seemed to be bothered.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head. My brother and I noticed that about a year ago and the writers have certainly kept it coming with the daddy issues. Worst is Penny. Her dad is Whitmore and he is diabolical. Locke's dad was pretty bad since he stole his kidney with no remorse. Also, Locke's dad swindled Sawyer's mother. Sun's dad is also horrible.I don't think Michael was a bad dad. He loved Walt very much. Jack's dad also was flawed but he loved Jack.

Every character that we've seen in childhood has daddy issues,maybe Desmond too since he said he had to raises brothers... only Juliet seems to have stable parents, and that's because we've never seen them!

Jack and Locke have the most compelling daddy stories, only because they were the most featured on the show. However, Penny and Ben come at a close second, I would think, considering how volatile their relationships were with their fathers.
