My family bought Velcro and attached it to both ends of one of those coiled things similar to a phone cord. Then we connected one end to the table and another to the remote. It has a lot of give (you can buy enough to go as far as you need, and it's actually not detrimental to the decorating. If you can picture, it's similar to how stores have pens attached to counters.
Same problem with me. You feel like since theres no remote to be found you can't watch television even though the t.v is perfectly fine. Get one of those cabinets that hold the television and whenever your done using it put it on top of the television in the cabinet. The nice ones are expensive but when you close it, it makes the room look cute! If you ever lose it. Which I bet you will every once in a while check the gap between the cushion of the sofa and the back of it. Its most of the time there. I even found my car keys there once. lol
you should try having a 'special' placemat or something on the coffee table for the remote and the remote is not to leave that area. If it gets lost no tv for an hour or somethng like that, a form of punishment to keep them on their toes and aware of what their doing.
You could attach a string to the remote, then tie that string to something near where you watch the tv, so the kids can't take it out of the room, and leave it somewhere.
Buy antoher one, and program it to work with your tv. Then put one of them in the night stand with velcro and the other one under the tv stand, with celcro. Some recliners have a little pocket for the remote. Then you could buy yet antoher remote and put it in that pocket.

Hide the remote, too bad that it does not say "Keep away from children"
Get a remote for your remote.. so when you push the button, it beeps.
When you finish watching TV, put your remote in your drawer.
get a remote holder and nail it to the wall
put it in a remote area!!
