I am software developer (programmer) and looking to buy new portable computer, now I am stuck between Macbook Pro i5 & Laptop i5 which one should i go for. I really need a heavy duty machine.

The macbook air will have the speed of the flash storage while the MacBook pro uses a faster i5 chip than the Air. You will also get more battery life from the pro. The Air uses an i5 3317u with a tdp of 17w while the pro uses a 3210m that has a 35w tdp. The 3210m will be capable of more demanding applications.
