I'm looking into buying a Macbook within the next 5 to 8 months. I'm going off to college in September 2011, and the school I'm going to is entirely Mac based. I'm going for a Music Business major with a minor in Music Production, so I'm looking to buy a Macbook for my production purposes. What are the major differences between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro? And which one would you recommend for someone who will be using it for school work and music editing and producing?

Definitely buy the Macbook Pro 2011 edition that will be released in june with OSX Lion.
The Macbook is for casual use, such as email, web browsing, instant messaging and more.
The Pro is more for editing film and creating collages and music.
You can get the 13 in which I believe will feature a Core i3, the 15 in which will feature the core i5 and i7 or the 17 in which will feature the Core i7 and will be available for upgrade on the Apple Website to the Core iX.
The Macbook Pros also have separate audio ports for input and output which can be used to record music separate rather than connecting a third party product do it.
Definitely go for the 15 in core i7 if you do not have a budget, if you do have a budget get the Core i3 Macbook Pro, the base model, and upgrade it yourself on the website.
The main difference between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro is performance.
The Pro will have faster CPU's more RAM and larger screens than the normal Macbook. I would suggest going with the pro for your uses.
Now, one thing you might want to consider is the possibility of running a PC with Mac software. These days the hardware for both platforms are pretty much the same, so there are several PC laptops out there with specs that are much higher than the Macbooks for a cheaper price that will run Mac OSX without any issues.
Now, that would require you to have a close friend who is capable of installing the software on it for you, which might not be an option. But you are fully capable of reading up on it and learning how to do it yourself.
That would save you hundreds of dollars, plus it will be faster.
Im not an expert but this is all i know. The MacBook Pro I think is a little bigger has more hdd space better processing power and just looks cooler with glowing keyboard. It is definatley better than th MacBook especially if your doing music profduction. So id go with MacBook Pro but remember costs a little bit more.
macbook is ugly overpriced plastic, and macbook pro is nice overpriced alluminium and glass
