Elvis was not racist, these rumors are recent, and I'm sure it's jealousy, because its international aura.
Personally, Michael. But there's right or wrong answer. For the person who said about Elvis' movies, I'd say that's one of the reasons he's NOT better than Michael. The movies made him out to be a joke, they were terrible. I prefer Michael's voice, I prefer Michael's music and unlike Elvis, Michael wrote the majority of his songs. Elvis was a good singer and a good performer but he was no great shakes at actually writing the songs, or composing them. To me, that makes Michael better - that he FELT the music, that he knew how to create it from scratch, and so beautifully too. Michael's music videos were revolutionary, he and Elvis both blurred the barriors between Black and White music, Michael perhaps more so because of the MTV thing, but also because of his direct statements - it don't matter if you're black or white.
I will never underestimate Elvis' talent, his gospelly music is amazing. But a lot of his music sounds dated. It doesn't give me the warm feeling that Michael's did. That's personal though, as I'm sure, had I grown up with Elvis' music, I would probably feel differently. Michael's dancing was magnificent and to me, his performances were far greater than Elvis'.
And the over-all awe, talent, magic of the artist, to me, lies with Michael. His lyrics were delicate, caring, passionate and funky. Earth Song, Heal The World, The Lost Children, Speechless... They come straight from his heart and touch our own. His lyrics were statements. He really cared. He used his talent and fame to promote peace and love. Elvis never did that - he was never direct and never preached the same beautiful message that Michael did. That's why I admire and respect Mike more - he used his fame to his advantage, to make a difference in the world. He was not just another musical genius.
Personally, I think you would have to treat each separately as they are in categories of their own. Both were great entertainers and have their own exclusive followings. I look at it as if someone asked you who is the greatest classical composer of all time. One needs to look at the context in which their "greatness" was framed to understand the individual artists climb to "legendary" status as I think both Elvis and Michael Jackson have achieved.
I know this might sound like a cop out answer, but such a distinction would be hard to make. Staying power would be the key to solve this mystery and it is yet to early to tell.
Hands down Michael, I grew up with Elvis and the only thing I liked that he sang was the Christmas album, Crying in the Chapel, and the album he did of the blues and gospel songs. He had a beautiful voice but it could have been used better. The rest was just noise to me. I'm older than Michael was but from the first time I heard him sing as a young kid I knew great things were going to come from that him. Man can you imagine the music being made in heaven right now, it give me chills just thinking about it.
Elvis Aaron Presley He did more time worthy productions. Movies, Music, and he never really changed. He got heavy but hey we all change a bit thru time. Plus he actually went to war. Do think MJ would have fought for our country, I mean he didn't even live here did he??????? ELVIS NO DOUBTS
