I was thinking of making a nerf gun out of some stuff and instead of a hand pump to use a mini air compressor like you would see for a car tire kit like the one in the link Below. I just don't know how i could connect one of those to a battery setup or what i would need to do so.

Update:yeah i was planning on useing something a little more sturdy then a coke bottle but i get the point lol. triggering the correct amount of air to come out is going to be a problem i think.... my main questions is what i would need to turn that crapp $17 compressor into a battery operated model.

the actual connection of the pump to the gun would be simple enough, just some flexible pressure tubing and a few standard fittings (you may need to be imaginative in connecting to the gun if there is no air pressure connection already, but it should be straightforward enough. You should put some kind of pressure holding vessel (a plastic carbonated drink bottle would be fine) inline with the air supply to store pressure, as the air in the pipes would not have that much stored energy.
The hardest part would be controlling the pressure. you would not want the pump to overpressurise the bottle so either a pressure switch to turn it off, or a pressure relief valve. either way, keep the pressure to a maximum of 100 psi.
you would also need a valve between the pressure tank and the gun to allow pressure to build and then release very quickly. You would need to find a manually controlled 3 port pneumatic valve to give you fast switching. I do not know where you can get this cheaply unless you know someone who works with such things regularly and may be able to get a used one. A new one may make the whole project too expensive.
