If Minnesota were smart about it Id prob want blue chip prospects and a high draft pick. No less than a 1st round or 2nd round draft pick for him. They have to also trade with a team that can absorb his salry and have room under the cap so they can either extend or offer him the $7-9 million he'll prob want per year... If he has a no trade clause, Im sure he's not going to want to go to a last place team. Detroit could package some of their great prospects that are stuck down in the minors, a draft pick and a current player or two. But they have cap problems. As Do the Ducks and Dallas and SanJose and Chicago unless Minnesota wants Khabibulin and his $6 mil a year price tag. Id see him flourishing on a team like Toronto or maybe a Boston. Calgary, Vancouver or even Montreal also may be a great fit. It's all in what Minnesota would be asking for and what a team may be willing to pay with prospects and picks. Will that team be able to keep him? Will they be able to afford him? The cap changes everything when it comes to trades.
If the Minnesota Wild were to trade Gaborik don't expect the Wild to get too much in return because I'm not. Marian can't stay healthy to save his life. And unless he can stay healthy; who wants him? I say they may get 1-2 decent players and *maybe* a draft pick.
Trade him to the Islanders for Rick DiPietro. Backstrom is a UFA after this season and will probably cost more than the 4.5 million D.P. is already signed for. D.P. is also 4 years younger than Backstrom. Both players are often injured, so it would be even there too. The Islanders could use the scoring. Plus, it would punish Gaborik for not signing an extension.
To the Penguins after he helped the Wild beat them 4 to 3 in the Shootout, he was so good he owes the fans of Pittsburgh expection, Why would mess with the BACK AND GOLD when you can be a part of it and help us win games.
They will be looking for a package similiar to what PITT gave for Hossa! They may not get quite as much... but see that trade as a starting point for what they may be asking.
A lot of factors go into it... but Gabby is seen as a Franchise player (injury or not) and a package like what PITT gave for Hossa is fair value for a franchise player.

To the blues for a young a good player David Perron, and a 7th round pick, and Chris Mason, and Jeff Woywitka.
