Pros make money for fighting, Amateurs do not.
Pros are alot more skilled than Amateurs because they train FULL TIME, amateurs don't because they have to work, go to school, ect.
Pro fighters are alot more experienced because they have been training longer, and fighting longer.
Watch an amateur mma fight.
then watch a professional mma fight.
amateur mma fighters are generally alot sloppier than pro fights, meaning that the fighters often go in swinging wildly looking for a highlight reel knockout, or submission.
The first part of Jarodan's answer is correct.
The difference between pro and amateur MMA is that pro's are paid money while amateur's are not. That is the only difference between the two.
@Jarodan many pro MMA fighters have other jobs even at the highest level. Shane Carwin is an engineer, many fighters teach class and are personal trainers, etc. Fighting doesn't pay all the bills for the vast majority of fighters.
rules vary in different states, but usually each round is 5 minutes, 3 rounds for non title, 5 for championship, round could end due to referee stoppage, doctor stoppage, k.o or submission, tap. and you get points based on aggression, control, activity, effective strikes, submission attempts, counters, but like i said the rules vary so i might be incorrect.
