One thing that I don't understand is how the sealing gives any benefit. The way I see it, you will end up in one of two situations:
1) In the celestial kingdom, with your family members who also made it into the celestial kingdom. You're in the same place forever, so there is no need for you to be sealed in order to stay together.
2) Not in the celestial kingdom, apart from your family members who made it into the celestial kingdom. You're not together forever, so the sealing had no effect.
What is the benefit of being "sealed"?
Update:@David: OK, but as I just outlined above, sealing doesn't seem to have any effect on "being together with your family forever".

Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
This is just one more place where the Book or Mormon contradicts the Bible.
between the main appropriate issues that separates the Mormon church from different church homes is they have a residing prophet who gets non-end revelation for the church. The e book of Mormon is an more suitable half to the Bible, yet as quickly as God has mentioned one ingredient it does no longer advise He can't say something new. eternal marriage replaced into revealed after the e book of Mormon in the Doctrine and Covenants.
It is mostly a leap of faith. God hasn't revealed all the details of Celestial life. Apparently though, only those who are sealed will be capable of procreation. The idea of being resurrected as a eunuch isn't very appealing to me.
'sealing' accomplished by the power of God through His authority opens a door that otherwise may not be open...
think about it --- if God told you 'follow these directions and I will see you on the east side of the building if you do....would you just wait around in the parking lot on the north side of the building waiting and wondering...would you chart your own course and hope you find the east side of the right building....our choices determine who we are and where we will be.
the benefit of being sealed is to be with your family for all eternity.. And to the guy who puled out matthew.. This has nothing to do with marrage... It has to do with being a family.. Idiot..... You will be in the celestial kingdom still.. You will just rule your own universe....... You will still live with god and your family... Do any of you live at your work?
If each person progresses to becoming a god of their own planet, then they won't be with their kids anyway. The kids will be on their own planets.
Do you think God is sealed to his family? Does he spend time with them? Maybe he should concentrate on fixing Earth more instead - you know, curing disease and hunger and stuff.
This concept causes no end of grief to people with blended families. A woman can't get her sealing cancelled after she divorces a guy unless she remarries in the temple. Her kids with a 2nd husband are sealed to her first ex-husband. This situations go on and on, and there is no solution ever handed out. If God has to sort it all out anyway, what's the point?
And every Christian I've ever known has believed they'd be with family and friends in the hereafter anyway.
We don't know how it works but if you aren't sealed, you have no chance to be with your family OR YOUR SPOUSE! I don't know about you but I'd like to still be married after I die. I we aren't sealed, I'm single.
Oh, Fireball....
Just. Give. UP!!
