so my son is 4 months and 2 weeks old, he is trying to crawl. he gets on all fours and humps the air, he can slowly alternate his legs forward and he can throw his body forward. he is a very advanced baby, at 1 month old he was rolling over. at 3 and a half months he could sit up by himself for about a minute but he wont let me try to sit him down anymore,he tries to stand... my question is, does he need to be sitting on his own before he can start crawling and if anyone can give me a guess as to when he will be rellyy crawling... is a couple weeks too unrealistic?
Update:he is not on his belly scooting he is on his hands and knees.

It sounds like he is getting ready but don't be surprised if there is a regression. I have had many of my children seem like they are about to do something and then boom they regress and don't seem to be able to do it or I expected them to reach a goal and they haven't. Every child is different and develop in a certain way. All my children have been different in times of walking. Oldest - 15 mths. 3rd was 10.5 mths at the youngest to do so and the rest all between those times. What I do notice though is that when they regress they seem to be working on another milestone. Usually they master the other one before coming back to the one you thought they might have mastered. As far as sitting, I don't believe they need to be sitting to master crawling. Although the muscles in some instance are about the same, so he might master both at the same time. Usually they master those first since this helps in the more complex crawling motion. Your baby will probably be "stuck on neutral" for a few weeks before mastering this skill. Enjoy!
Your baby will start crawling when he's good and ready to do so - it's as simple as that. He will get there in his own time and own way.
One of my children crawled first, and learned to sit unassisted later. Another was like your son and hit the physical milestones earlier than average - rolling at a few weeks old, sitting up without support at three months, crawling on hands and knees by five months, and standing unsupported at six months. That time, sitting up unassisted came before crawling.
In short, every baby is different and it's really difficult to pinpoint when your baby will hit the next stage.
So he does the army crawl, good for him. Sitting up pretty much means he has the strength to have his belly off the floor, 2 months is realistic for sitting up really.
Your son can begin crawling whenever he is ready, whether or not he has mastered sitting alone. It seems like he'll be moving around early, so I hope you've started baby proofing!!
